Bangkok, September 28, 2026 — Thousands of people sought shelter in evacuation centres in Bangkok on Monday after intense weekend rainfall caused widespread flooding across parts of Thailand.

Some areas of the capital remained flooded, while rising water levels in reservoirs in eastern Thailand prompted authorities to order additional residents to leave their homes.

According to Reuters, Bangkok received around 320 millimetres of rain during the weekend, overwhelming parts of the city’s drainage system and flooding entire neighbourhoods.

Authorities and emergency teams continued working to manage the flooding and assess damage as residents began returning to affected areas where conditions allowed.

The flooding has also disrupted transport and daily activities in several parts of the country.
