New York, September 28, 2026 — U.S. stock index futures fell on Monday as rising oil prices increased concerns about inflation and interest rates.
Dow futures were down about 0.48%, while S&P 500 futures fell 0.45% and Nasdaq futures declined 0.86%.
The market move came after U.S. President Donald Trump rejected an Iranian proposal aimed at ending the conflict and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Trump said U.S. negotiators were expected to continue talks with Iran this week.
Brent crude prices rose more than 3% during Monday’s trading, reaching above $107 per barrel. Higher energy prices have renewed concerns that inflation could remain elevated and affect expectations for U.S. interest rates.
Investors are also preparing for the latest U.S. employment report, due later this week, which could provide further clues about the strength of the American economy.
